Exhibit at the UN Palais des Nations, Geneva

Lienslazos à l'ONU

Organized by the Permanent Mission of Nicaragua to the United Nations with the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The exhibition will be on display at the Communal Space, E Building, 3rd Floor – Door 40. From 24 October to 9 November 2017.

The exhibition LiensLazos by the Nicaraguan artist+photographer Iara Vega Linhares aim to describe trough images the lasting relationships between peoples in San Marcos, Nicaragua and Biel/Bienne, Switzerland since 1986, when a group of young Biennois travelled to Nicaragua in order to collaborate and live with local communities. The various portraits recorded by the photographer bear witness to the connections of solidarity and affection between people from the two cities, despite being distant geographically and in their daily realities. As such, the photos show contrast, but also bring closer these two “universes”.

The exhibition’s inauguration was solemnly open with the words of mister Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office in Geneva and the Ambassador of Nicaragua in Switzerland and representative of Nicaragua to the UN, Hernan Estrada Roman.

Wonderful opening of LAZOS/SUHTED in the Kiek in de Kök Museum, Tallinn, Estonia

Lazos/Suhted, the photo-exhibition from Iara Vega-Linhares will be in Kiek in de Kök Museum, Tallinn until September 15, 2015. If you are traveling to Estonia this summer, don’t miss it !

The opening of the exhibition, last May 12, was a warm international exchange of culture and solidarity, the feedback from the Estonian public, artists and journalists was fantastic. Curious and wise glances to the unknown. The pleasure of showing trough images, one more time, and like if it was the first time, the beautiful story of friendship and solidarity between the people of two twin cities, San Marcos in Nicaragua and Biel/Bienne in Switzerland. A story that reflects so many similar stories.

Iara Vega-Linhares ( Santiago, Chile1972)

Is a nicaraguan photographer, journalist, graphic designer and
traveler. Lives and works in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland with her
Family since 2007.

After having settled in Biel Bienne , she found that many of its
inhabitants were closely related to her Nicaragua (the native
country of her mother and where she lived more than 15 years).
Iara wanted to know more about these ties and document it
through the lenses of her camara and her love for Nicaragua.

Lazos/Suhted was created with the aim of sharing this beautiful
story of strong friendship born during the Sandinista’s Revolution
in the 80’s.

Portraits and places in San Marcos, Nicaragua (located in a
region of agro economic activity and recognised as University City,
37 kms away from the Capital Managua,) where a brigade of 12 young
swiss teachers and trade union volunteers decided to engage
their solidarity.

Lazos/Suhted is a book and an exhibition. It’s a mirror of hundreds
of similar stories of solidarity, and important part of our collective
history and conscious. The Embassy of Nicaragua in Finland and
concurrent to Estonia is honored to share this exhibition and
intimate piece of our history with you in Tallinn, Estonia !
